Rutnin Eye Hospital

Rutnin Eye Hospital was opened in 1964 by Dr Uthai Rutnin, a prominent ophthalmologist from Thailand. Today the hospital provides the most comprehensive eye care available in Thailand and serves numerous international patients.

Dr Uthai Rutnin attended Harvard Medical School and won a scholarship from the Retina Foundation from Massachusetts’ Eye and Ear Infirmary. With this funding he was able to study the retinas of thousands of subjects, leading him to sketch the Normal Fundus Chart. This chart has gone on to become one of the world’s most important teaching tools for aspiring ophthalmologists.

After this early achievement, Dr Rutnin went on to found his hospital, which was Thailand’s first private facility devoted to eye surgery. Today, Rutnin Eye Hospital is a world leader in eye care, offering treatment for a variety of eye diseases. A separate wing of the hospital uses advanced laser technology to treat eye diseases in children.

Today there are 29 board certified surgeons at Rutnin Eye hospital, with an onsite expert in every subfield of ophthalmology. The most common procedures performed here include oculoplastics, excimer laser refractive surgery, glaucoma correction and operations on the cornea. The hospital invests in the most modern technology available to remain at the forefront of its field.

Rutnin Eye Hospital is centrally located in Bangkok along Sukhumvit Road, easily accessed by the city’s public transportation links. The staff can help international visitors with travel plans, including visa assistance.
