Mexico Health Spas
Although Mexico is not automatically associated with the health spa industry, it does in fact have an excellent spa scene catering to a range of vacationers.
Health spas in Mexico can be divided into two categories: destination spas and resort spas. Destination spas are tucked away in remote natural areas and provide everything you need during your stay such as food, lodging, and spa treatments. They are naturally a package-style concept. Destination spas typically have the most skilled staff and will take care of your every need.
Resort spas are connected to popular vacation resorts or hotels where the spa experience is just one component to your vacation. Here, the spas are a walk-in service where you choose what treatments you want in between enjoying the pleasures of a Mexican holiday. The services at both kind of spa are a typical mix of beauty pampering, health therapies, massage, holistic healing and outdoor recreation.
Destination spas are equipped with much better facilities and specialized treatments as this is their primary function. The top end of this group of spas is as modern and reputable as any in the world. These are also the most expensive spas, though still quite affordable by global standards. Resort spas can be hit or miss depending on the quality of the hotel it is associated with.
Many travelers come to Mexico specifically to stay at a destination spa for their entire trip. But Mexico has a rich and colorful culture, best experienced by traveling away from the typical beach resort towns. There are amazing Spanish colonial towns, ancient Mayan ruins in the Yucatan and the planet’s most populous metropolis in Mexico City.
The most popular spa resorts in Mexico tend to be located around the beach communities such as Cancun, Acapulco, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta. More exclusive destination spas can be found in the pastoral interior or among the classic highland regions.
There isn’t much regulation in Mexico, so your spa will only be as good as its desire to maintain a strong reputation. Resort spas have no real regulation, but most of the top destination spas are staffed by well-trained technicians and maintain superb standards of service and quality.
