Medical facilities in Mexico are below par for a North American country until you look at the medical facilities of the best hospitals in the medical tourism industry. These hospitals are comparable to those of the US, with a full range of equipment and services, along with highly professional English speaking doctors and cheap prices.

The best hospitals are naturally located in the major centers, like Mexico City, Monterey, Tijuana, Ensenada, Cancun, and Rosarita, and generally cater to middle class Mexicans and foreign tourists. Although prices for these top hospitals are relatively high for most Mexicans, when compared with the best US and European hospitals, they charge around 50 per cent of the cost.

All the latest medical procedures, from cosmetic surgery to heart bypass surgery, are doable here, with some of the flashiest equipment and the most highly qualified physicians around. Obesity surgery is a popular treatment option in Mexico, along with cancer treatment, orthopedics, and even stem cell research.

Many Mexican doctors and nurses have been trained and accredited by the international medical body in the US and speak fluent English and Spanish. Mexico’s top surgical centers and outpatient care clinics feature technologically advanced equipment to meet the needs of medical tourist. There are also a growing number of professional nursing care services in the big centers of Mexico where 24-hour care and specialized treatments are equal to those of the US.

The major disparity with Mexico’s medical facilities, however, is in normal society at government hospitals and such. Facilities here are lax, with a lack of highly trained staff, fewer English speaking nurses, and older equipment. Prices are cheaper, however. The other downside is that Mexico’s emergency services are woeful, although private hospital emergency services are adequate.
