Panama Health & Safety

Panama hospitals promoting their services to medical tourists see to it that hygiene standards are kept to the highest level, on par with those of top rate establishments across the world. Dengue fever and malaria are two common illnesses in Panama and visitors are advised to seek appropriate preventative medication before travel to the country. Getting vaccinated against yellow fever, hepatitis and Hantavirus is also recommended.

Although in the past Panama has had considerable violence problems throughout the country, the city itself has always had a good reputation for safety. In addition, recent government campaigns have made the country a much safer place to travel. Today only a few suburbs of Panama - namely El Chorrillo, Curundu and El Marañó - are considered unsafe to travel to, while the city of Colon is widely known as being a no-go area for tourists. Few travelers to Panama have any troubles with regards to safety, with most finding the people of the country welcoming and friendly.
