Hotels in Singapore

Singapore has a wide variety of accommodation options. Land is sparse in the city-state, with the small island being inhabited by over three million people. As a result, most Singaporeans live in high-rise apartment buildings that cost as much as a freestanding house in neighboring Malaysia.

This city has a proliferation of hotels however and visitors to Singapore will be given several options for where to bed down for the night. Don’t expect to find too many budget options; with space at such a premium, even the cheaper hotels can be expensive. Hotels usually run at an occupancy rate of roughly 80 percent, which means prices aren’t discounted often.

Orchard Road has the largest concentration of hotels, with the street lined with various options to suit all tastes. Tourists flock here for the many shopping malls found in the area and Clarke and Boat Quays are close enough to reach on foot.

Checking into a hotel in the Colonial center puts you at the center of all the action and cuts down on any time that would be otherwise be spent on public transport. This option is the priciest though. For those seeking out a bargain, locations outside the main tourist areas will prove more affordable.

Singapore isn’t really all that big, so opting for lodgings on the outskirts of town isn’t as bad as it cold be, with public transportation linking the outskirts with the city center in a matter of minutes via metro train.

Singapore’s peak seasons are November through February. During religious and cultural festivals, the city is at its busiest. November sees the Indian community celebrating Deepavali while December is busy around Christmas. January/February sees the Chinese community take to the streets in celebration of their new year. During these times, it is adviseable to book a hotel in advance.
