Medical Facilities in Thailand
Thailand has become known as one of the top places in the world for medical tourism, owing to its fantastic hospitals, high level of service and medical facilities, and world-class holiday destinations.
Thailand has hundreds of private hospitals that foreigners will find accommodating, while even many of the better government hospitals do well for facilities and equipment. The best thing is that good hospitals can be found in all the top tourist hotspots, including Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Chang Mai, and Koh Samui.
Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok is widely regarded as the best in the country, being the most advanced and most expensive, relatively. Facilities here are superb and compare to any equivalent hospital in the world for range of treatment and quality of staff.
Bangkok’s Samitivej hospitals are other top Thai hospitals and among the most respected. They also have excellent medical facilities comparable with most top hospitals elsewhere in the world and are significantly cheaper than Bumrungrad. There is also a Samitivej in Sriracha, near the popular resort of Pattaya.
Modern equipment and state-of-the-art technologies provide often unheard of treatments and at generally a fraction of the cost as in the West. Some of the equipment and procedures used include: digital mammogram; prostate treatment through green light PVP laser; the latest magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machinery for detecting blood clots and brain cancer; and minimal invasive heart surgery.
While Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Chang Mai, and Koh Samui have the best medical facilities in Thailand, there is also a huge amount of quality clinics in towns and cities across the country. These range from a slew of dental clinics with modern equipment and Western trained dentists and dental hygienists to LASIK eye laser clinics and cosmetic surgery clinics.
The better clinics will invariably have English speaking staff and in the case of dental work, they will generally be able to see you on the day you register. Cosmetic dentistry is particularly popular in clinics throughout Thailand, with prices being significantly cheaper than most anywhere in the world.
