Hotels in Vietnam

As more tourists make trips to Vietnam, there has been a sharp increase in the quality and volume of lodgings. While lodgings in smaller towns or rural areas usually only provide basic accommodation, they do allow for an authentic experience of the country.

In coastal tourist areas like the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hoi An, a well established tourist market means there are choices from budget to five-star luxury. In Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City the accommodation gamut is equally spread out and even more hotels continue to be built.

The area around Hanoi’s central lake is where most of the new development is happening. At some of the top-end hotels here you should not expect to pay much less than what you would in the West. The most common type of hotel available in Hanoi consists of a basic room with a double bed and en-suite bathroom. Quality can vary so if you have the time it pays to check a few hotels before making a decision.

Ho Chi Minh City also affords the visitor a choice between cheap, moderate and opulent places to lay down your head for the night. It is decidedly more developed than Hanoi and its capitalist past means it has embraced the free market system more openly and fully than Hanoi. The city attracts a more modern crowd and accommodation choices in the center reflect this.

Other tourist destinations such as Hue and Hoi An also offer accommodation for most budgets, but lodgings in these cities are usually slightly cheaper than in the two principal cities of north and south. Be prepared that a three or four-star hotel in Vietnam may not live up to what a three or four-star hotel may be in the West.
